SVG to host CSEC art exhibition

The island of St Vincent and the Grenadines will host this year’s Caribbean Examinations Council Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Visual Arts Exhibition.{{more}}

The exhibition will be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education and the CXC and will run from March 23 to 27 at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown.

The CXC Visual Arts Exhibition features the work of students from across the region, including St Vincent and the Grenadines, submitted for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination over the last three years. The pieces on display will include Regional Top Award winning pieces in Visual Arts two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. They will also include pieces which achieved Grade I in Visual Arts examinations.

The objectives of the Visual Arts exhibition are to highlight the creative work of Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Visual Arts students; to expose students in the host territory to what examiners consider Art of a high standard; to promote Visual Arts as a feasible career choice; to showcase the work of CSEC Visual Art students to the public and to promote CSEC Visual Arts as a CXC subject.

The exhibition will have several categories including Drawing, Imaginative Composition, Graphic Design, Ceramics, 3-Dimensional Design, Surface Decoration, Print Making, Leather Craft and Fibre Art.

Students from all secondary schools in St Vincent and the Grenadines are expected to attend the exhibition. The exhibition is free and is opened to all members of the public as well.

Dr Didacus Jules, CXC Registrar said, “CXC is taking its Visual Arts offering to the next level by offering students the opportunity to generate income from their art work by selling them on the Internet similar to what is done on E-Bay, and also using the art on greetings cards to be produced by a world-renowned card company.”

The CXC Visual Arts Exhibition was started in 2003 and is held in a different CXC Participating Territory each year. The last exhibition was held in Trinidad and Tobago in 2007.
