Venzuela donates wind stations to SVG

Two wind stations have arrived in the island compliments of the Hugo Chavez Administration of Venezuela.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves who received the equipment from the head of the National Institution of Civil Aviation of Venezuela at the weekend said that the equipment will be used to measure wind speeds and direction at the proposed site for the Argyle International Airport to determine whether there was a need to design an airport to accommodate cross winds.{{more}}

One of the criticisms of the proposed site was that it was prone to cross winds and therefore unsuitable for an airport.

One wind station, also donated by Venezuela, has already been installed on the office building for the International Airport Development Company at Argyle.

Prime Minister Gonsalves told journalists that heavy duty equipment from Venezuela would arrive this week and would be used for road works.

The two countries are also scheduled to sign an agreement for helicopter search and rescue in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
