Franeica takes Primary Calypso title

Franeica takes Primary Calypso title

There will be a new Primary School Calypso monarch next year.

That’s because 2005 title holder Franeica Glasgow has been admitted to Secondary School. {{more}}

Whether she continues her singing will be left to be seen. But last Tuesday 28, Franeica accomplished a major feat at Victoria Park with a superb rendition of a song called “Bush remedy”.

Franeica placed first for her school in the Common Entrance which puts her in line for a $200 incentive provided by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, the parliamentary representative for North Central Windward in which Park Hill is located.

Franeica, the daughter of Denise Chewitt and Francis Glasgow, placed 94th for Girls and 139th overall in the recently held Common Entrance Examinations.

She had grades of 80 for Math, 66 for General Paper and 65 for English. But Tuesday she thrilled the Victoria Park audience with her performance and it was no surprise when she gained the judges’ approval.

Franeica also placed second in the North Windward Junior carnival competition.

Franeica paid tribute to her class teacher Eustace DeFreitas following her performance.

This is her first time in the singing arena and, if the reaction of her parents and fellow villagers is anything to go by, one could expect to see Franeica in future calypso shows.

Franeica beat last year’s winner C.W. Prescod’s Amunik Martin into second place.

Martin, a close relative of Vincentian Superstar Kevin Lyttle, did the number “My wish”.

Third position was taken by the Calder Government School’s Donella ‘Singing DP’ Power with a song “Education for all”.

Richmond Hill Primary’s Collin ‘Man Sparkie’ McIntosh with “Education d key”, the Kingstown Anglican’s Xojuanna ‘Princess XoJie’ Scrubb: “Do good”; Dorsetshire Hill Government School’s Chequanna ‘Lady Che’ Gilkes: “My dream”, also vied for the crown.
