The show, which took place on Sunday 28th June 2009, got off to a late start but did not disappoint as nine bands took the stage and drummed out in near perfection, well rehearsed tunes on their steel drums.

The fairly large crowd was entertained by the steel bands who performed tunes by Alston ‘Becket’ Cyrus, Skarpyon, Icon, and De Rebels and Poorsah. “Rush Me” and “Oh Lard” were chosen by Community based bands Dynamic Stars and Starlift Steel Orchestra respectively, while Icon’s “Two Knee” was played by Troumaca Primary School. Tunes by Skarpyon were performed by C.W. Prescod Primary School and Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra while De Rebels “Soca Train” was performed by Symphonix Steel Orchestra. The tune “Janice” by Tommy T was performed by Genesis Steel Orchestra, first time participants in the Junior Panorama competition.

Three bands competed in the school bands category. They were St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, C.W. Prescod Primary School and Troumaca Primary School. Six community bands took part in that category of the competition: Dynamic Stars, South East Steel Orchestra, Genesis Steele Orchestra, Sion Hill Euphonium and Symphonix Steel Orchestra.

In the school bands category, the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown scored 290 points ahead of the C.W. Prescod Primary which placed second with 266 points while third place winners the Troumaca Primary School scored 191 points. For the community based bands, winner NLA Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra scored 347 points, Starlift Steel Orchestra placed second with 343 points, with the South East Steel Orchestra placing third place with 298 points.(OS)
