At the Carnival Development Committee’s (CDC) press conference at Victoria Park on Wednesday, June 10th, representatives from the St. Vincent Electricity Services (VINLEC), St. Vincent Building and Loan Association, and the Bank of Nova Scotia, handed over cheques to officials of the CDC.

Long time sponsors of Vincy Mas, the Building and Loan association once again stepped forward with $5000, which was handed over to CDC Chief Executive Officer Ashford Wood by Luella Jackson.

Jackson said that the donation was a sign of her company’s dedication to carnival.

Also stepping up with a cheque was Scotia Bank, whose $10,000 donation will go towards the co-sponsoring of the Junior Calypso and Soca Monarch competition which takes place on June 30th. Scotia Bank representative Quammie Mascoll indicated that his company wants to play a part in the development of Vincy Mas, and since they were already involved in youth development through Kiddie Cricket, saw it fit to co-sponsor the young calypsonians and soca artistes.

The youngsters were the focus of the donation by VINLEC, who once again are sponsoring the June 28th, Junior Panorama competition.

Communications Officer Tamara Job indicated that VINLEC was especially impressed with the competition last year, and hoped that their $30,000 donation will go a long way in the sponsorship of the competition.

This year, eleven Junior pan sides will compete in two categories: schools and community pan division, with an overall winner being selected.

That winner will receive the Ricardo Sam Challenge Trophy.

Over the past weeks, a number of sponsors have made monetary donations to the CDC; including a EC$1 million donation by the National Lotteries Authority and $300,000 from LIME.
