Kevin Lyttle visits Searchlight

He is one of the biggest names in soca music.

And, four years after he began storming the world with the hit tune “Turn Me On” Kevin Lyttle remains the hottest on the scene.

Released in 2001, up until today “Turn Me On” remains a hit that the whole world loves. {{more}}

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT Lyttle expressed that he still marvels at his success for which he gives God all the credit.

“At first I did not expect it to blow up like this.After I saw the way people were loving the song and were holding on to it, I saw in the future that once I got a record deal and the international media jumped on it that would have happened.”

Lyttle said his major challenge at the moment is to come back with the next big hit. He said the only way he could do that is to have the support of Vincentians.

Everyone knows the fans are hungry for another big hit like Turn Me On and are ready to embrace more of Lyttle’s numbers. And, Lyttle as if sensing the feeling that big things are about to happen again has retraced his steps that took him to super stardom.

“My career is in the hands of the people of St.Vincent and the Grenadines. St.Vincent made me with Turn Me On and St.Vincent and the Grenadines that has to make me with the next big hit again,” said Lyttle with optimism.

“It’s the same way.My country, my people.I’m bringing them to the forefront.”

He has returned to St.Vincent and the Grenadines to release three of his new big tracks- “Burning With Me” featuring Mr.Vegas already mashing up Trinidad , “Home For Carnival” an anthem for Carnivals in the Caribbean already topping the charts in the US and “Losing Control” featuring Jamesy-P before going on his Canada tour.

For Carnival, Lyttle will be launching a T-shirt band, along with staging a big fete at the Cinerama Theatres. Last Wednesday night Lyttle conducted an autograph session at the Attic and very soon he will be shooting a music video during the Hot 97 wet fete.

Lyttle said he has delivered on his record deal with Atlantic Records. Among his achievements are Artiste of the Year in Japan, Album of the Year in Japan, Gold Records throughout Europe plus first international artiste to perform in Romania. He has also made it to number four on the Billboard Hot 100 single charts, and number one on the Billboard Top 40 tracks chart. He has also had the opportunity to perform on MTV and BET’s 106 & Park. Lyttle has also received rave reviews from the New York Times, and USA Today. Turn Me On has also topped charts in Denmark, Germany, Holland, Norway, the UK, Australia, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland and France.

Moreso he has been doing promotions for the record company, and sales such as ring tones, movie sound tracks for “Hitch”, “After The Sun Set”, The Bold & the Beautiful, Eve TV show, A & E, and R General.

With his unique voice Lyttle is like a melting pot of several genres of music such as dance hall, reggae, soca and R&B.

Pinpointing the basis for “Turn Me On’s success Lyttle said: “All I did was sing good on the record. I didn’t change anything in terms of the flavour of soca and dance hall put together.The basic thing that made this song so unique was my voice, the way I sung on the record.”
