Gonsalves: ‘We deserve a Sixth Term’
Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves on Sunday listed some of his party’s achievements during their 24 years in governance, while telling voters that the Unity Labour Party (ULP) deserves a sixth term.
The Prime Minister also told the thousands gathered at the Chatoyer National Park at Rabacca, in the North Windward Constituency that because of the ULP’s accomplishments as the ruling party, they should not have to campaign.
“I am humbled by your support; I shall never forget your love until my dying breath. I shall always be there for you … and Labour would live in the goodness of God … let our Labour family stay together.”
Last week Friday, March 28, 2024, dubbed by the party as ‘Red Friday’ marked exactly 24 years since the ULP took the reins of governance in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), and in celebration a weekend of activities was organised that culminated at the Park at Rabacca on Sunday, March 30.
Delivering the feature address at the rally that attracted thousands of people, a lot of them potential voters, Gonsalves said the Opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) wants to form government but the last time the party governed, they overlooked several critical areas that should have been prioritised to improve the lives of the people.
He said the NDP neglected healthcare, critical infrastructural development, and education, and concluded that the party has a weak leader in Dr Godwin Friday.
Gonsalves noted that there are people who do not share the people-centred vision that can be seen in the ULP’s philosophy, policies and programmes, “and they will try to tear us down”.
He said some people are like Samson in the bible, “who try to pull the temple down on everybody head including their own”.
The Prime Minister said the NDP is asking for a chance and suggested they should therefore play one of the games of the National Lotteries Authority.
“…you don’t take chance with your children’s future. You don’t take chance with your constituency future. You don’t take chance with your country’s future,” he declared.
“This government has done all the big, strategic things right. And every time a large strategic issue has arisen, the NDP has found itself on the wrong side.”
