Chess Federation receives valuable equipment
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Chess Federation (SVGCF) is in a better position to roll out more of its programmes as it endeavours to move the sport past its embryonic stage.
A donation of 100 chess sets and clocks, inclusive of some electronic ones, procured from the Confederation of Chess for the Americas (CCA), is part of the shot in the arm for Chess here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Newly re-elected President of the SVGCF – Israel Bruce, who attended the CCA’s Assembly in Panama City, Panama, from December 2 and 3, received the donation on St Vincent and the Grenadines’ behalf.
Appreciative of the donation, Bruce commented: “These 100 sets will assist tremendously in the chess in schools programme, which will be pursued vigorously in 2024 in preparation for the inaugural National Schools Chess Championship 2024”.
Bruce was especially delighted with the electronic boards, as they would serve good preparation for international events.
“The electronic sets will aid tremendously the preparation of the teams for the Chess Olympiad since the Olympiad games are played using these electronic boards… These boards create reports on the game by each player’s moves, which will allow the coaches to review and point out to players where their moves were not the best or what moves accounted for their winning, drawing or losing the game”, the SVGCF President outlined.
As it relates to the match sheets, Bruce related, “The training in being able to keep match sheets is also critical as part of the preparation”.
Bruce was re-installed as President of the SVGCF when the organisation hosted its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Cruise Ship Terminal.
