Thousands headback to school
THE MAJORITY of primary, secondary, and technical- vocational institutions across St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), officially reopened their doors yesterday, Monday, September 7, 2026, welcoming staff and students for the start of the 2026–2027 academic year following weeks on Summer break.
Among the thousands in classrooms nationwide were more than 1,700 who sat the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment in May and are entering secondary school for the first time.

Yesterday’s nationwide re-opening follows a prior announcement by the Ministry of Education announcing the postponement of the original August 31 school start date by one week to allow families to utilize a second government- approved VAT-free shopping day. However, the Ministry of Education said ongoing facility maintenance requirements have forced an immediate staggered opening schedule for six specific schools across the nation. The Brighton Methodist School, Calder Government School, Buccament Bay Secondary School, and Emmanuel High School, Mesopotamia will not reopen until Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Meanwhile, the St. Mary’s R.C. School and Langley Park Government School require additional preparation time, and are scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 14, 2026.
Yesterday, Minister of Education Phillip Jackson addressed the state via the Agency for Public Information (API), extending warm wishes to every student, teacher, principal, parent, and guardian across the nation.
