NDP benefitting from ULP ‘windfall’ – Opposition Leader
LEADER OFTHE OPPOSITION Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said without certain “windfalls”, created by the Unity Labour Party (ULP) administration, the current government would not be able to meet certain obligations, among them the payroll.
Speaking on the Morning Comrade radio programme on August 31, 2026, the former prime minister said, that while Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday has been telling the public that the ULP left the country in debt, he is not telling about what was left for the NDP to inherit.
“While the NDP is talking, while Friday is talking about, we leave him this item of debt that item of debt, everybody can see where the ULP government spent the money,” Dr. Gonsalves told radio listeners.
He said the numerous projects completed and started by the ULP administration are there for all to see, while financial decisions like borrowing from the World Bank to help people after Hurricane Beryl struck on July 1, 2024, was important.
He listed among them police stations, sea defense projects, construction of hospitals, , the sports facilities at Arnos Vale and Diamond, cultural facilities, houses, the Modern Port in Kingstown, while making investments in the Central Water and Sewage Authority (CWSA) and the St Vincent Electricity Services (VINLEC).
