Victors One smother North Leeward at Cumberland

It was not a good homecoming for Providence Electronic Solutions North Leeward, as they welcomed Victors One on what can be called their home ground – the Cumberland Playing Field – in the first Premier Division match of the national cricket programme to be played at that venue.

In the end, Victors One came away with an outright win by 71 runs.

Victors One, in their first visit to the crease, made 146 from 31.3 overs; Lauron Francois led with 45.

North Leeward’s most successful bowler was Shammon Hooper, who snared 5 for 47, with Javon Samuel taking 2 for 7 and Donald Delpesche – 2 for 14.

But North Leeward could only make 66 in response. Leshawn Lewis top scored with 20, as Alston Bobb picked off 4 for 11; Ronaldo Franklyn took 4 for 21 and Ray Jordan – 2 for 14.

Batting a second time, Victors One pushed to 124 for 4 declared. Atticus Browne scored 61, Lauron Francois – 29 and Alson Bobb – 26.

Shammon Hooper was again among the wicket takers, with 2 for 39.

Set 205 to win, North Leeward folded for 133. Donald Delpesche made 44 and OJay Matthews – 31.

Wrecking North Leeward’s batting, Kinson Dalzell grabbed 4 for 30, while there were two wickets apiece for Ray Jordan, Alston Bobb and Ronaldo Franklyn.

Meanwhile, at the Sion Hill Playing Field, rain shortened the encounter between FLOW Radcliffe and Police Two, with the match ending in no result.

Police Two scored 199 all out from 52.1 overs. Kenneth Dember struck 57 and Andrew Thomas – 50.

Bowling for Radcliffe, Tijourne Pope had 3 for 29 and Lindon James – 2 for 21.

Radcliffe’s response reached 153 for 8. Wayne Harper top scored with 70, while Romano Bibby picked off 4 for 16 and Darius Martin had 2 for 28, to lead Police Two’s bowling.

And, at Arnos Vale One, Team Rivals had the upper hand on Guardian General Saints on first innings.

Sent in to bat, Saints produced an under par 130 from 54.3 overs. Rommell Currency was the top scorer with 76.

Team Rivals’ Asif Hooper grabbed 4 for 43 and Casmond Walters picked up 3 for 44.

In reply, Team Rivals declared their innings at 226 for 8 from 45. 2 overs. Dillon Douglas led with 57; Casmond Walters made 50, Anson Latchman – 47 and Roneil Jeffrey – 37.

There were two wickets each for Ray Charles, Jeremy Haywood and Kelon Davis, at 22, 24 and 29 runs, respectively.

Saints’ second innings reached 20 for 2, with Obed Mc Coy accounting for both scalps at a cost of four runs.

All six outfits will be in action again this weekend.

At Park Hill, Radcliffe and Saints will rumble, with Police Two and North Leeward play at Cumberland.

And at Arnos Vale One, Victors One engage Team Rivals.(RT)
