Remembering Renwick Rose – ‘Death is the gateway to Eternity’
METHODIST LOCAL PREACHER in the Kingstown- Chateubelair Circuit, Montgomery Maule, has reminded the attendees of Renwick Rose’s funeral that this world is not their home and that they should thank God for people like Renwick, who have been placed into their lives.
Delivering the homily at Rose’s funeral on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Kingstown Methodist Church, Maule highlighted the consistent positive commentary about the veteran, social activist and journalist, who died on May 27, 2026.
Maule said that one would think that everyone who paid homage to Rose somehow got together and decided that they were going to say the same thing about him.
“All of us here…shared [that] Renwick is very progressive, versed, vocal, and totally committed to voluntary non-profit non-governmental organizations.”
Maule said that others referred to Rose as “a little man with a huge image within civil society…and then Mr. Jomo Thomas… he added [that Renwick was] a tireless working class warrior”.
He urged the congregation to note that death is the gateway to eternity, through which everyone must pass one day; and that people have become concerned with the timing of their death, how they would die, the circumstances surrounding their deaths, the possible loss of loved ones, and what this would mean for them.
“And this shadow…this awareness…often inhibits our upward movement and veils our vision of life in all its wonderful fullness that our God has built for us.”
He made reference to the late renowned American singer Jim Reeves, who was “right on the ball”
and “target” with his composition which states, “this world is not my home. I am just passing through. My treasures are laid out somewhere beyond the blue.”
Maule reiterated that everyone is just passing through, and that they must take advantage of all the opportunities that come their way “And stand up at all times for what we believe; stand up for truth and justice, and fearful moments”.
He also reminded the congregation that God is always with them and quoted from Psalm 23 which urges people to fear no evil as God is with them.
“Let us note though my friends, the psalmist does not say that he will fear no evil because there is no such thing as evil. Neither does he say that he will fear no evil, because he’s a good man, he’s a Godly person, and evil affects only those who deserve it.”
Maule then quoted from the Book of Romans that, If God is with you, who could be against you; and “Who shall separate us from the love of God?”.
Maule, who referred to Rose as a wonderful man, said that God works through people like him. He urged the congregation to thank God for the people who were placed in their lives to love, guide, inspire, and help them as they might not have survived without such people.
