PMFA camp kicking to goals

The Pete Morris Football Academy (PFMA) Camp, which is currently taking place at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, is heading towards the goals set.{{more}}

Targetting boys and girls between the ages of six and 15 years old, the camp, in its first week, from July 20 to 24, netted over 150 participants, but organizers forecast that the number will double this week, as the good news spreads.

During the first week, the participants were fed with knowledge from the Morris brothers Pete and Des, as well as other local coaches and famed Spanish club FC Barcelona’s head youth coaching director Jefrey Callau Casanova.

Speaking at a press briefing last Thursday, Des said he was inspired by the enthusiasm shown by those who attended the first week.

“We have the confidence that we will have a young Vincentian football player that can get to the next level… You guys are the diamonds who we need to mould, form, to get to the next level,” Des indicated.

Looking down the field, Des projected, “The reason why we do this is that we want to see at least one kid get to go to Barcelona… If we get that done, then our job is done.”

Meanwhile, Casanova told Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture Cecil McKie, who was in attendance last Thursday, to put more resources into football, as there are talents which can be harnessed.

Casanova told the young aspirants to greatness, “You have to play every day.”

The Barcelona Youth Coaching director informed that training every day is one of the hallmarks of his club’s success over the years in bringing on young players.

Director of Physical Education and Sports Nelson Hillocks in sending the message out, said. “Bring your football boots and come,” as he invited others to be part of this week’s programme, which runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

He also asked that more females show up and be part of the exciting experience.

Apart from being exposed to football coaching methods and football matches, the camp participants have been lectured in an introduction to Money Management 101.

Alongside the camp experience, the 13th Touchmasters Giveaway will take place.

Des revealed that the give-aways this time around will be done in Belair, South Rivers, Keartons, Bequia, Richland Park and his hometown of Layou.

Following the camp here, the Morris brothers will team up with Barcelona’s coaches in Houston, Texas, at an annual summer camp there.(RT)
