SVGCC Sports Department Sports Awards replaced by inclusive awards ceremony
A more inclusive awards ceremony, which will recognise both faculty and student excellence across a range of areas, spanning academics to sports, will this year replace the 2026 SVGCC Annual Sports Awards Ceremony of the Sports Department of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC).
It means that the annual event that for the last four years acknowledged and rewarded the outstanding participants of the College’s various sporting disciplines during the school year, as well as various external entities who were involved in the institution’s sporting events, will no longer take place.
“The SVGCC Sports Department extends its gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the tremendous success of the annual Sports Awards over the past four years. Your commitment to detail, excellence and to making the numerous athletes feel extraordinarily special did not go unnoticed,” the sports co-ordinator of the SVGCC, Roxell John, stated in a release dated April 28, 2026.
“The SVGCC Sports Department also takes this opportunity to express its deepest appreciation to all athletes who, over the past seven months, gave of the best to represent their divisions, the SVGCC, their respective entities and our country in the various sporting disciplines. We wish you continued success in all of your future sporting endeavours.”
Other than the annual sports awards, the only other ceremony held by the SVGCC is the graduation.
A range of awards were usually handed out during the Sports Awards Ceremony. They included: Footballer of the Year, Netballer of the Year, Cricketer of the Year, Table Tennis Player of the Year, Basketballer of the Year, Volleyballer of the Year, and Athlete of the Year. Non- Affiliated Athlete of the Year, Non- Affiliated Entity of the Year, Division of the Year, Unsung Heroes, Most Promising Athlete, Sportswoman of the Year, Sportsman of the Year, and Sports Personality of the Year.
The 2026 SVGCC Sports Department’s annual sports awards ceremony was advertised previously on the college’s sports calendar.
