Phillips and Crick take the spotlight in Business Houses Table Tennis final
Dexter Phillips and Corbett Crick shared the spotlight in many ways when the 2026 Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy Business Houses Table Tennis Tournament ended on Thursday, April 30, at the West St George Secondary School, Belair.
The two brought the tournament to a close as they battled it out in five games, before Phillips had the last laugh.
Crick had taken the first two games, 13-11 and 11-8. However, Phillips stormed back to win the next three at 11-9, 11-9, 11-7.
Crick was seeking his second piece of silverware on the night, having represented winners, Irie Travel Comsports in the teams competition.
For Phillips it was his first title, whilst Crick was part of the winning unit of SVG Broadcasting Corporation at the inaugural tournament in 2009.
The two had reached the final after securing 2-1 wins in the semi-finals.
Phillips, representing G &T Enterprise beat Davon Cato of Irie Travel/ Comsports 5-11, 11-8, 11-6, and Crick ousted Mark Charles of Pan American Life Insurance, 11-6, 10-12,
11-7. In trumping the singles, Phillips upset the norm of the past two tournaments when the singles winner emerged from the unit that won the teams’ title.
Cato won in 2024, and in 2025, Jelani Cumberbatch did so for Civil Aviation.
However, as the 2026 edition closed out Crick left the arena with the top award for the Most Outstanding Player.
