NDP trying to gain power with lies and deception

Editor: Permit me a space in your newspaper to pen my concern.

I read with interest the online article in Caribbean News Now concerning the sale of a St Vincent and the Grenadines passport to a Nigerian national for USD$75,000. At first, I hesitated to share my own limited view on the matter surrounding the publishing of such article at this time, but later decided, as a Vincentian, to add my two-cents to it.{{more}}

I will not be discussing the article in its present context, but only to share my concern on the current political climate in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and what gives rise to such an article and other similar ones in this election year. Having read the entire article, it only elevated my concern for the type of attitudes existing in our land; a subtle attempt to gain power by deception is evil. Lies and gossip with the sole intent to distract the electorate could never be a good thing.

I have never seen such nonsense in the history of politics in this country of mine. The NDP have, in recent times, pulled out a lot of dirt from their distorted Pandora box, of which nothing seems to be working in their favour. In a desperate attempt to sway the voters, there is this Garifuna issue, which has become a mess, and now this matter concerning a passport.

If, for some luck or chance, the Opposition were to govern this country, I have no doubt that we will sling backwards into a so-called stone-age. But I believe that the majority of Vincentians will not allow this to happen. It is evident in St Vincent and the Grenadines that the current party in power is poised to win the upcoming general elections.

Vincentians can see progress and know what a progressive government looks like. The world is following the development of Vincy land. But a desperate political party and its spin doctors will do desperate things to fulfill their opportunistic dreams and aspirations, even if it means to destroy our country.

The article and its follow-ups remind me of an extremely desperate political party bent on trying to win the minds of the electorate in St Vincent and the Grenadines solely on slander, lies, gossip and old wives’ tales. No right thinking person in St Vincent and the Grenadines or anywhere else can believe such tales, save for those who are vulnerable and gullible.

The people who are spreading these tales are opportunistic individuals who have no love for SVG. All they are focused on is bringing down the Prime Minister of this country; they have no interest in the development of our blessed homeland. It’s Ralph, Ralph — that is all you are hearing. Is this the best this Opposition can do? Is this how they plan to win a general election? Is this our alternative choice for a Government?

A political party will win over the minds of the electorate by presenting good and sound alternative policies. Any good Opposition party would have started from day one in opposition to support the Government where necessary, and present their alternative plan in a civilized manner. It is the worst Opposition party I have ever seen in the entire Caribbean. The NDP is a far cry from what a political Opposition party should be. No regard for people and country.
