New Rector of St Mary’s Bequia to be inducted today

The Reverend Father J. Everton Weekes will be instituted and inducted as Rector of the Parish of St Mary’s, Bequia, with Holy Cross, Paget Farm, St Michael, Canouan, Mustique and St Matthias,{{more}} Union Island, today, at the St Mary’s Parish Church, Port Elizabeth, Bequia.

The service of institution and induction is being held on the Feast of Gregory the Great, Bishop of Rome, and will be performed by Bishop of the Windward Islands, His Lordship the Right Reverend Bishop C. Leopold Friday.

The service will begin at 10 a.m.

Father Weekes was born on April 5, 1951 and is married to Judy Jennifer (nee Keizer) and their marriage produced two children. He holds an Upper Second Class Honours B.A in Theology from the University of the West Indies – Codrington Theological College, Barbados. He was ordained to the Diaconate on December 21, 1976 and was ordained to the Holy Order of Priesthood on August 7, 1977.

The new Rector served as Assistant Priest of the St George’s Cathedral, Kingstown, St Vincent from 1977 to 1978; Priest in Charge at St John, Gouyave, Grenada, with St Mark, Victoria from 1978 to1982 and St Jude’s Anglican Church, Smith Point, Grand Bahama, Bahamas 1987 to 1995.

He has served as Rector of the St Simon the Cyrenian Episcopal Church, Fort Pierce, Florida from 1995 to 2013; St Matthew Anglican Church, Inagua, Bahamas (1987); Grace Church, Riviere Doree, Choiseul, St Lucia, with St Paul, Vieux Fort (1982-1986).

Father Weekes was a member of the Institute of Christian Studies, Diocese of Central Florida and the Recruitment, Training, and Development Committee, Office of Black Ministries, National Episcopal Church.
