New Montrose man given suspended sentence on assault charges

A New Montrose man, who was accused of holding another resident by his throat, throwing him on his back, and stomping on his stomach and chest was fined, and given a suspended sentence.

Bencito “Kinty” Bramble, 45, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie on Wednesday, April 23,2025, where he pleaded guilty that on April 7, 2025 at Kingstown he assaulted Earl Pitt of New Montrose causing actual bodily harm.

Pitt knows Bramble very well. They are not friends but they are living in the same community. On April 7, 2025 at about 9:45 a.m Pitt went to his friend’s mechanic shop in New Montrose where he usually hangs out.

When Pitt got there, he met Bramble, who approached him and asked when he was going to fix the wind shield of his car that Pitt’s cousin had broken.

Pitt told Bramble that he would look for a wind shield for him and his cousin would have to pay to put it in. Bramble became angry and ran towards Pitt, held him by his throat with his right hand, and threw him on his back.

While Pitt was on the concrete floor, Bramble began stomping on his stomach and chest causing Pitt to sustain injuries to his body.

Later the same day, Pitt went to the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) and reported the matter to the police where PC 871 Lewis entertained his report.

On April 8, 2025 at about 7:30 a.m, Pitt returned to the CID. A written statement was recorded from him and investigations were carried out into the matter.

Five days later, PC Lewis visited the scene with Pitt, where observations were made. Later that day, PC Lewis met Bramble at New Montrose.

She identified herself to him as a police officer, and informed him about the report that was made against him. PC Lewis arrested Bramble on suspicion for the offence and took him to CID.

At 2:25 p.m, PC Lewis cautioned and interviewed Bramble in the presence of Corporal 540 Sam. Bramble volunteered a written statement admitting to pushing Pitt causing him to fall on the ground, but denied stomping and choking him.

PC Lewis charged Bramble for the offence of Assault Bodily Harm. After the facts were read, Pitt told the court, “Once he go to jail, me get me justice.”

Pitt added that he “don’t want no sorry.” He said that Bramble stomped on his chest, but he did not get an x-ray done. However, Bramble continued to deny some of the actions that he was accused of doing.

Pitt asked Bramble the reason he was “standing up in the box telling lies.” When asked, Bramble said that he was drinking at the time of the offence but he was not drunk.

He was sentenced to prison for eight months, suspended for 12 months. He was also fined $300, $100 to be paid forthwith or he will spend three months in prison. The remainder of the fine is to be paid by April 29, 2025 or Bramble will spend three months in prison.
