Flow of CDC shows marred by late start
Official shows at Independence Park organised by the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), were plagued by late starts, long breaks, and unexplained pauses in the programme, resulting in super late finishes.
One of the most anticipated events, the Soca Monarch show on Saturday, July 4, did not give a start time on the CDC’s Facebook poster, just that gates open at 7:00 p.m. However, patrons had to wait until after 11:00 p.m for a start to the show and this was followed by constant long breaks between artistes’ performances, which prolonged the show at which Jasper YMC, the last of the 15 scheduled acts, found himself on stage after 5:00 a.m on Sunday, July 4. This obviously affected his props as they were done on stage at daylight in full view of the audience, instead of under the shroud of darkness.
Coupled with Saturday’s tiring night, Dimanche Gras on Sunday, July 5, was another disappointing and tiresome evening. Advertised to start at 8:00 p.m, the show did not get going until after 10:00 p.m, and also had consistent stoppages resulting in the Calypso Monarch being crowned after 3:00 a.m on Monday.
