Mirage is Band of the Year – Band celebrates legacy of founder ‘Becks’
Rebecca Gonsalves, daughter of Lennox ‘Becks’ Gonsalves, founder of Mirage Productions feels very proud that the band has won the ‘Band of the Year’ title on their fortieth anniversary as they honour her father.
Mirage Productions captured the title for VincyMas 2026 with their presentation, ‘His Legacy’. They amassed a total of 363 points, as they paid tribute to ‘Becks’ who passed away on November 4, 2024, what was projected to be a fitting tribute to the man whose contribution helped shape Mirage into one of this country’s enduring masquerade bands.
Mirage Productions got the judges’ nod for best use of colour- 222 points; was second in the Uptown Competition/Mas on the Move, and landed fourth place in the Junior Band of the Year category, scoring 371 points.
Speaking with SEARCHLIGHT in an interview, Band Leader Rebecca, daughter of ‘Becks’ said Mirage did not enter the competition to win the ‘Band of the Year’ title; they simply wanted to provide a service to their masqueraders.
“And once they’re content, we’re content because it’s all about them on Carnival Tuesday, so adding the ‘Band of the Year’ title on a momentous year of our 40th anniversary in his honour is huge for us.”
