Tajoe set to defend his crown in 2023 calypso finals

Reigning calypso monarch Maxwell ‘Tajoe’ Francis will definitely be defending the calypso monarchy he won in 2022.

Tajoe made his first appearance for the 2023 season on the evening of Friday, June 30 at Victoria Park for Fantastic Friday, the calypso semifinals.

He will come up against 11 others who were named following Friday’s semifinals.

In a brief interview with SEARCHLIGHT on Saturday, July 1, Tajoe confirmed that he will be defending his crown, despite media reports to the contrary.

An educator by profession, Francis first won the national calypso crown in 2011, then again in 2022.
