Passenger van overturns, injuring several persons, including students

A blue passenger van overturned on Thursday evening at around 6:00 pm resulting in injuries to several passengers including students returning home from a school function.

HR 981, an 18-seater Toyota vehicle was heading to Sandy Bay when it overturned in an area known “Savannah Gutter,” which is between Orange Hill and Tourama.

The passengers were taken to Modern Medical and Diagnostic Centre at Georgetown for treatment of injuries “of various types” a police source said.

The vehicle was badly damaged.

Police confirmed to SEARCHLIGHT that the minivan involved in the accident is the same vehicle that was captured on video in January on the North Union public road taking a corner at what appeared to be a high speed and ending up on two wheels.

The vehicle is owned by Police Constable Joyron Hull of Green Hill whose license was suspended after he was charged with driving motor vehicle HR-981 in a dangerous manner on January 26, 2023 at the North Union Public Road.

A police source told SEARCHLIGHT that Hull was the conductor on the vehicle when it overturned on Thursday at Savannah Gutter.

The name of the driver is not yet known.

This latest crash comes of the heels of at least three accidents in a week that saw minivans overturning and passengers being injured.
