Local Tennis players earn valuable ranking points

YOUNG VINCENTIAN Tennis players earned themselves valuable ranking points following their participation in the Central American and Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC) SVG CHATOYER Under-14 Boys Tournament, hosted by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association (SVGTA).

Emerging from the tournament staged at the National Tennis Centre, Villa from July 25 to July 29, 2026, six players were able to notch up some points and also their rankings.

Topping the group was Ethan Kent who gained 140.5 points, that positioned him to 22nd. Kent was the 2025 singles and doubles champion.

Next best was Zion Byfield- Grant and Zion Reece who both sit at 108, as they each collected 13.50 points.

Isaiah Smart is at position 108, after earning 11.75 points from his participation.

Meanwhile, Darryl Richards’ 4.50 points, positions him at 153 and Rio Marks-Dasent is at 167, as he recorded 3.50 points. The rankings were released on August 16, 2026.

The COTECC tournament was the first of four tournaments which the SVGTA dubbed Tennis Fest.

The back- to- back-World Tennis Under-18s kept the national tennis in hive, as some of the best up and coming talents in that age group descended on St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Canada’s Aaron-David MefireYounzwe took the Boys’ title, with Klara Andonegui Sehnalova of Great Britain, taking the girls’ champion.

Topping the Boys’ doubles were Charles Begg-Smith of Great Britain, and Hong Kong’s Justin Chan, while Ka Hei Ma of Hong Kong and Great Britain’s Charlotte Perks took the title in the Girls’ Doubles.

The second tournament saw Aaron-David Mefire Younzwe repeating his feat in the Boys’ title and Sydney Wright of the USA, the girls’ winner.

The pair of Mefire Younzwe and Chan took the boys doubles; while Hoi Hei Hui of Hong Kong and the USA’s Kylie Gordon emerged the doubles winners for the girls.

The tournament also served an ace for St Vincent and the Grenadines as Roxann Williams’ debuted as the head official at this level of tournament.

The final event of Tennis Fest 2026 is the National Open and Masters tournament scheduled for September 21-27.
