SVG Men’s Volleyball team wins Senior ECVA title
St Vincent and the Grenadines is the 2026 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) senior men’s champions, securing the title on Sunday, August 16, with a well- orchestrated display of all-round ability in the gold medal match versus arch rivals St Lucia.
The Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Tortola was the venue for the triumph, as the Vincentians rebounded manfully after dropping the opening set 17–25.
Then it was all SVG, as the next three sets exemplified the Vincentians’ spirit of resilience, winning 25–17, 25–13 and 25–22.
The win reversed an earlier loss to the St Lucians, as the two were part of Pool A of the preliminaries.
A 3-1 game(25–17, 17–25, 18–25, 19–25) in St Lucia’s favour did not stop St Vincent and the Grenadines from topping the pool.
St Vincent and the Grenadines started their journey to the title, on August 12, 2026 with a 3–1 (25–21, 25–23, 23–25, 25–18) win over Grenada.
The following day, the Vincentians defeated the defending champions Antigua and Barbuda in straight sets, (25–11, 25–20, 25–22).
By virtue of winning the pool, St Vincent and the Grenadines met the technically gifted Bermuda in the semi-final. However, the Vincentians swept their foes, 3–0 (25–18, 25–22, 25–20) to land a berth in the final.
Duane Daniel who returned from a 14- year hiatus, after giving up coaching in 2012, said his involvement was a vindication.
He, however, assessed that the players were the ones who crafted the journey aided by the coaching staff.
“I want to thank the members; they know I put them through hell, they know that I was strict on discipline, punctuality. But there is a lesson, there is a life lesson in this even though it is sport, what you put in is what you get out and anything is possible with commitment, with discipline and practice,” Daniel quipped.
His comments came at a welcoming ceremony on Monday, August 17, 2026 at the Argyle International Airport, which was organized by the Ministry of Youth Sport, Culture and the Creative Industries.
Other than the title, St Vincent and the Grenadines returned with the accolade of MVP which was pouched by Jamaar Cropper.
In addition to his top award, Cropper was the best scorer and best opposite hitter.
St Vincent and the Grenadines last won the ECVA senior Men’s title in 2018.
