Joshua Weinhart debuts SVG at Youth Sailing Worlds
Fourteen year-old Joshua Weinhart represented St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG),at the ILCA 4 Youth Sailing Worlds in Aarhus, Denmark, from August 1 to 9, 2026, becoming the first Vincentian sailor to compete at an ILCA Youth Worlds event.
Weinhart had to pit his skills against 300 of the world’s top young ILCA 4 sailors, finishing 252nd overall and 101st in the Under 16 boys, the St Vincent and the Grenadine Swimming Association (SVGSA) said in a release. His participation capped months of training, fundraising and preparation. The regatta featured a wide range of conditions that tested Weinhart’s skill, focus and adaptability, with every race providing valuable experience.
A highlight of the event was training and competing alongside an international team under the guidance of Olympic coaches Bruno Fontes, Andrew Lewis and Eduardo Marques, whose support, the SVGSA said, helped young Weinhart to strengthen his tactical awareness, boat handling and race strategy.
One of the most meaningful moments was carrying the St Vincent and the Grenadines flag on the world stage. According to the SVGSA, Weinhart hopes his achievement will inspire other young sailors in SVG to pursue their dreams.
He returns home with new skills, lasting friendships and greater determination to continue representing St Vincent and the Grenadines in international sailing.
