Team SVG wins historic Caribbean Junior Squash Title

AT THE END of the 2026 Caribbean Junior Squash Championships, aka Junior CASA,Team SVG Boys made an emphatic statement as the region’s best on the court. The team’s historic run in Tortola began with outstanding performances in the singles and doubles competitions, where the contingent secured two gold medals from Zavin Garrick – Under 11 and Jayden George Under 17, one silver medal in Boys Doubles and one bronze medal for Jaydon Williams – Under 19 .

That momentum carried through to the team event, where the talented squad of Zavin Garrick, Savante Padmore, Ethan Webster, Jayden George, Aiden DeFreitas and Jaydon Williams lived up to their No.1 seeding showing dominance in the group stage with decisive victories over Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana in the group stage, before handing down a 4-2 thumping of Cayman Islands in the semifinals.

A rematch with longtime powerhouse Guyana beckoned in the championship match, and the Vincies proved their earlier 5-1 success over the defending champions had been no fluke. The team’s youngest member delivered the first blow with a comfortable 11-2, 11-0, 11-4 win against Jude Gobin, before Jayden George and Jaydon Williams dismissed Justin Ten Pow and Joshua Verwey in straight games to set up the decider.

Inspired by his teammates, Aiden Defreitas then sealed the deal with a 11-8, 10-12, 11-2, 11-9 result over Shiloh Asregado to claim SVG’s place in the record books with a first ever Caribbean team title. Alongside a 9th place showing from the Girls team of Caeli George, Naira Skye-John and Ciara George, the result secured another podium finish as the Vincy squad clinched 3rd place in the overall team standings.

As the SVG Squash Association celebrates this momentous occasion, it has

extended thanks to sponsors – St.Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee, Bank of St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Joel Richards, Tus-T Water Inc. and Minister of Sports, Hon. Kaschaka Cupid – for their continued support.

Coach Jules Snagg and his charges now look toward a title defence in 2027, while Jayden George will test his skills on the international stage as he heads to Canada for the World Junior Squash Championships running from 20-31 July 2026.
