SVG Men’s Senior Basketball Team in final preparations to Compete in FIBA
A 20-member St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball team will touch down in Trinidad and Tobago today, July 3, 2026 for pre-tournament training as they head to Guyana to compete in the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Caribbean Pre-Qualifiers, scheduled for July 6–13, 2026.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation (SVGBF), said in a release that the tournament marks a significant milestone for Vincentian basketball, as it will be the Men’s Senior National Team’s first international competition since the 2018 tournament in Suriname.
The team will be aiming to qualify for the next stage of the FIBA AmeriCup in November 2026.
All games will be played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana, with the Vincentian delegation being accommodated at the Royal International Hotel.
Due to the absence of an indoor wooden basketball facility in St. Vincent and the Grenadines that meets international competition standards, the national team is required to conduct its pre-tournament training camp in Trinidad and Tobago, the Federation explained.
The team, which departs SVG on July 3, 2026 will participate in a three-day training camp at the Eastern Regional Sports Complex in Trinidad, and Tobago before travelling to Guyana on July 6, 2026.
The FIBA AmeriCup tournament will feature 10 participating nations divided into two groups of five teams, with only the top-ranked team from each group advancing to the next stage of the competition. St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been drawn in Group B alongside Barbados, Grenada, Haiti and the Cayman
Islands; while Group A comprises Bermuda, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Turks and Caicos
Islands, and host nation Guyana. Team SVG will face each of its Group B opponents in a round-robin format as it vies for one of the two coveted qualification spots. The SVGBA has leaned heavily on overseas-based Vincentian players to make up the national contingent. The team comprises:

Head of delegation is SVGBF President Suzette Jackson; team manager/Chef de Mission is Sabrina Mitchell; with Justin Scott as head coach; and assistant coach in Randolph “Sticky” Williams.
Ella Mitchell-Sutton is social media manager. The team’s physiotherapist is Shirnan Jacobs; and team doctor in Rico Audain.
Team SVG will play its first game on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. versus Grenada.
