New winners to emerge at Wendell Hercules National Championships
Some new winners will be crowned when Team Athletics SVG stages its 2026 Wendell Hercules National Championships at the Diamond Track Facility on June 20 and 21.
This is because the start lists does not contain some winners from the 2025 edition.
Notably, overseas based athletes Mc Kish Compton, who won the Men’s 100 meters last year; Handal Roban, the 800-m Men’s champion; and Brandon Valentine- Parris, the reigning 400-m male champion, will not be in for the championships. Set to defend their turf are A J Delpesche in the men’s 200-m, Romaul James, the men’s long jump and triple jump, whilst Trevel Sylvan will be looking to repeat his high jump feat.
Meanwhile, Kirk Hamlett hopes to add more stay on his hold in the shot putt, likewise Andre Spencer in the discus throw.
Similarly, the women will be chomping at the bit with the sprints skewing towards a Teia Laborde double.
Kesiann John will take aim at the middle distances- the 800-m and 1500-m, whilst the 400-m is up for the taking.
Among the field events, Reine Browne is the front runner in the hurdles sections, while Amaia Edwards is highly favoured in the long jump and triple jump, with Toccara Barbour, the number one seed in the discus.
In the team events, High Performance return as the defending champions in the 4 x 400-m in both genders, and IT DAT Academy in the men’s 4 x 400-m.
This year’s championships will have the participation of two Grenadians.
