SVG Basketball Association taps overseas-based players for Americup pre-qualifier
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation (SVGBF), will be relying heavily on overseas –based Vincentian talent in its quest to earn one of two qualifying spots for St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG),when the Caribbean FIBA Americup 2029 pre-qualifying tournament takes place in Georgetown, Guyana from July 6 to 13, 2026.
Among the list of players who use their skills elsewhere are Darreo Glasgow who is currently playing for the British Army Basketball; Opong Bramble, playing professionally in Spain; Brendan Smart in Taiwan;
Shad Thomas who plays for Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, USA; Hosea De Freitas who is with the Florida Flight in the USA; as well as Phillip Lawrence Ricks who at present, is assistant coach at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, USA.
Also named are Tyler Fraser who plays at the University of Albany in New York, USA; Chrisford Telesford, coaching in Los Angeles, USA; and Sean Baptiste, coaching in Boston, USA.
A release from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation said the team will be completed by locally based players. St Vincent and the Grenadines, joins nine others- Antigua & Barbuda, Bermuda, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Dominica, Haiti, and Turks & Caicos Islands, who are all in search of qualification.
