Two Vincentian cyclists attain podium finishes at OECS Championships
Sage Williams in his first outing on the sub- regional cycling scene, copped the top place in the Cadet category, to highlight St Vincent and the Grenadines’ efforts at the 2026 ABWU OECS Cycling Championships, staged on Sunday,May 31, in Antigua and Barbuda.
Williams timed 1:10.0, when he completed the two laps, as the cyclists looped the circuit from Old Parham Road, then to Airport Road, Coolidge, Hodges Bay, Cedar Grove, Friars Hill Road, via St John’s and back to Old Parham Road.
St Vincent and the Grenadines’ next best performance was Desron Bynoe ‘s second place in the Masters’ segment, stopping the clock at 2:11.50.
That segment which consisted of two laps, was won by Samuel Talbot of Antigua and Barbuda who timed 2:00.52.
In addition to Williams and Bynoe, who are based in Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines had two entrants in the Elite category- Zefal Bailey and Lucky Antrobus.
Bailey placed sixth in a time of 2:32.47, and Antrobus was two places back in eighth position with a 2:33.07 clocking.
Winning the Elite category was Grenada’s Red Walters who did five laps of the course in 2:21.40.
Last Sunday’s championships returned to the calendar after a six- year hiatus.
