Amal Glasgow takes down national 400m record
The St Vincent and the Grenadines men’s outdoor 400 meters record stood for 29 years, until Amal Glasgow dipped the 45.19 seconds set by Eswort Coombs in April, 1997, in the USA.
Last Friday, May 29, 2026, Glasgow timed 45.01-s at the National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA) Track and Field Outdoor Championships to place his name in the record books.
Glasgow is competing for the Louisiana State University (LSU) Glasgow which has gained a place to contest in the NCAA Championships carded for Eugene, Oregon, from June 10 to 13, 2026.
With the national 400-m record in his grasp, Glasgow added his latest feat to his existing Under-20 record.
Glasgow is a double CARIFTA bronze medallist, placing consecutive third places in the 2022 and 2023 editions.
In both instances, his medals came in the 400-m.
