Lady Heat cherishes win over USVI
After suffering big losses to Mexico and Puerto Rico in their previous two matches, St Vincent and the Grenadines senior women’s Football team, Lady Heat, finally had something to smile about.
A late goal from Cherish Laborde, in the 90+1-minute, last Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, gave Lady Heat a hard fought 1-0 win over the US Virgin Islands in a Group A match of the Concacaf Women’s Qualifiers.
A 14-0 trouncing by Mexico in November 2025, and 10-0 defeat by Puerto Rico in February 2026, left the Vincentians win less before Tuesday’s triumph.
It served to significantly life the spirits of the Vincentians, as confirmed by Head Coach Alnif Williams, and the team’s Vice- Captain Kendra Findlay.
Williams, in a post- match interview disclosed that it was a case of despondency after the negative outcomes of the previous outings.
“This win is indeed a confidence booster for us, as it was a challenge for us as players and as a staff in terms of keep[ing] the preparation going. Part of it was, some of the local players are not committed. This put me to a test as well as my staff.”
Consequently, Williams and his staff sought to draft four players from the Under-17 outfit and gained the services of two overseas- based players.
Meanwhile, Findlay said they want to end on a high in their final match versus St Lucia in St Lucia at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Findlay thus reminded her charges that “It is not about winning this game and going to St Lucia and fall short”.
Saturday’s match kicks off at 3:00 p.m, and the head coach has cautioned players about staying hydrated and listening to the coach’s instructions.
