​Georgetown Secondary to host All Windward Athletics Meet on Friday

The Georgetown Secondary School (GSS) has added another event to the sporting calendar of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with their hosting of the first-ever All Windward Athletics Meet on Friday March 7, 2025 at the Chili Playing Field.

The school’s physical education teacher, Steadroy Deane, who also is chair of the organizing committee for the inaugural All Windward Athletics Championships, outlined to SEARCHLIGHT the major reason behind the championships.

“There is All Leeward, and I think All Windward will unite the schools in the windward area. We have been planning this since last October,” 2024.

Deane said he believes this will be a boost to track and field events not only at the Georgetown Secondary School but to other schools in that geographical area.

He observed that the “Leeward schools are doing much better in track than the windward schools,” and noted that the All Windward Championships “will also help to expose the talents we have in this area”.

With all of the participating schools already having held their individual Inter-house athletics meets, Deane is confident that the competition on the track will be of a high standard.

He revealed that there is quite a lot of support for the event from businesses, and the Georgetown community.

“A lot of persons are on board with us. The private sector is very supportive.”

The competing schools are: George Stephens Senior Secondary School; North Union Secondary School; the Adelphi Secondary School; Emmanuel High School, Mesopotamia; West St. George Secondary School; and the Georgetown Secondary School.

In the invitational events there is expected to be representation from the Central Leeward Secondary School, the St. Martin’s Secondary School, and the Troumaca-Ontario Secondary School.

Commenting on the March 13, 2025 Inter-Secondary Schools Heats Deane added that each of the participating schools knows their strengths and weaknesses going into the heats and who gets the chance to adjust. He expects the All Windward Meet will contribute greatly to the coaches at the various schools being in a position to assess their student athletes ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 Inter-Secondary Schools Athletic Championships carded for March 20.
