SVG win opening match in Windwards Under-15 Cricket tournament

St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), began their hunt for sub-regional Under-15 cricket glory with a seven wicket defeat of Dominica at the Gros-Islet Playing Field in Sunday’s opening fixture of the 2024 WINLOTT Windward Islands Under-15 Cricket Championships in Saint Lucia.

The Vincentians won the toss and invited the Dominicans to take first knock, and were soon celebrating success with the fall of the first wicket with the total on 11. Wickets continued to fall as the Dominicans were unable to mount any partnerships of note. The fall of wickets for was steady- 1 for 11, 2 for 19, 3 for 40, 4 for 75,5 for 90, 6 for 91, 7 for 94, 8 for 95, 9 for 96. Their total was 96 all out.

Leading the batting for Dominica were A. Armstrong and J. Joseph with 27 each, being the only batters to get into double figures. Extras contributed 20 as the lads from the Nature Isle were dismissed in 24.4 overs.

Skipper, Jorden Charles was the main destroyer, finishing with figures of 7.4 overs, 3 maidens, 12 runs,6 wickets. He was ably supported by C. Adams with 2 for 18; E. Martin 1 for 14; and J. Stoddard 1 for 23.

In the run chase which lasted 15.2 overs, skipper Charles completed an outstanding all-round game, finishing on 21 not out in St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ total of 97 for 3.

Delroy Tittle top scored with 24; Kevon Phillips, bowled by Jalan Bruno for 18; Ahmar Lavia run out for 9; and A. Jordan not out 2 as the Vincentians raced to a seven wicket victory. The tournament, which opened on December 8, runs until December 15, 2024.
