10K series generates excitement in North Leeward

When the Log Enterprises Supreme Bleach 10k series touched North Leeward on Sunday, November, 24, 2024, excitement filled that locale.

The event, stashed into four categories: Primary Schools, Under -16, Under-20, and Open, gave budding athletes a glimpse into the future of road racing here in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

Providing some of that insight, were the students from the primary schools in that constituency.

But it was Tiana Duncan, competing under the banner of Biomechanics who won the girls’ category of primary schools, doing so in 17:23.00.

Champing the Boys segment was Caleb Porter of the Westwood Methodist School, who won in 11:17.00.

The primary schools athletes ran from Dark View, a small village close to Rose Bank, to the finish line, at the Beach Front Restaurant, Chateaubelair, a distance of 2.5km.

In the Under-16 age grouping, Ayah Stapleton of High Performance won in a time of 30:24.00.

Sharing the spotlight with Stapleton was Mustangs’ Mickal Stapleton whose winning time was 24:56.10.

The Under-16s began at Troumaca Bottom, and like all the other categories, ended at Chateaubelair; they ran the 5km.

Meanwhile in the 10k distance that started at Spring Village, Kesiann John of High Performance went it alone in the Female Under-20 age group, as she had no opposition, returning a time of 1:05:51.00.

However, Henreek-K Francios of Mustangs, had to ward off some challengers but trumped in 44:52.00.

In the Open category, Biomechanics’ Zita Vincent placed first for females in a time of 1:13:44.00.

Zichri Hepburn of Mustangs took the Male Open title with a 41:11.30 clocking.

Athletes who finished in the top three received cash prizes and products compliments Log Enterprises.

Jacintha Ballantyne, the long- standing Treasurer of Team Athletics SVG, under whose jurisdiction the event was staged, thanked the management of Log Enterprises, noting that their sponsorship has added an impetus to the road racing calendar.

Ballantyne disclosed that more races will be convened in 2025, as the organization continues its mandate to keep Athletics at the forefront of the sporting landscape here in SVG.

The series will conclude on Sunday, December 15, 2024, with the Sion Hill event.
