Sports Expo hits a high note

The hosting of a mini- sports expo last Saturday, November 9, 2024, on the compound of the Paradise Beach Hotel, proved a worthwhile one.

Convened in conjunction with the Leadership Forum staged by the Athletes Commission of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC), the expo gave national sporting associations the opportunity to display artefacts, memorabilia and also gave persons in attendance the opportunity to learn about the various sports.

Lauding the efforts of the Athletes Commission, Hazel Ann Regis- Buckels, who was the facilitator at the forum, revealed that she was able to learn something new.

Through interaction with the booth set up by the SVG Tennis Association, Regis- Buckels revealed, “I have been holding a Tennis racket wrong for my entire life, and coming to St Vincent and the Grenadines,” helped to correct this.

Lauding the affiliates of the SVGOC for answering the call to be present at the expo, General Secretary, Keith Joseph said the activity proved valuable.

“That is the value of this kind of activity, if each one gets to learn more about the other and if we do that proficiently then as a nation building sports overall, we can look forward to a healthier nation, a prosperous nation and more successful athletes coming from each and everyone of you”, Joseph commented.

He reminded those in attendance that many years ago, an exhibition preceded the hosting of the annual Olympic Week celebrations.
