Leacock eyeing Shevern John to be SVG’s first female Prime Minister

AN OPPOSITION LAW MAKER has hinted about the possibility of St Vincent and the Grenadines having it’s first female prime minister.

NDP member of Parliament for Central Kingstown, St Clair Leacock seems to be projecting that this person will be Senator Shevern John.

Leacock made his thoughts known last Sunday October 13, 2024, as he addressed the party’s open convention session at Petit Bordel.

Mentioning Senator John by name, the outspoken Leacock indicated that she is his choice “ for being the first female prime minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Senator John is the NDP’s candidate for the constituency of North Windward.

She contested the seat in the 2020 general elections, but was defeated by the ULP’s Montgomery Daniel, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister.

Leacock told the gathering at the Petit Bordel Playing Field, that the upcoming polls are not about his seat in Central Kingstown.

“In this election…it’s not about my seat in Central Kingstown.

“That is secure like [Kishore] Shallow for sure,” he declared. Shallow is expected to carry the party’s hopes to retake the seat in North Leeward in the next general elections.

Leacock said on the night of the next general elections” my job…is to say I am going into government.”

“I have been in politics for a long time, Leacock pointed out, “I was there in 1984 when NDP came into government.” He, however stated that his work is not over, so he must stay on a little while longer.

The Central Kingstown representative told supporters that the NDP has a plan and a programme for taking St Vincent and the Grenadines forward.

Sunday’s conversation heard speeches from numerous candidates as well as Party Leader, Dr Godwin Friday.
