2024 Schools Football season opens

The 2024 Schools Football Competition opened last Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field. Unlike previous years, where the opening featured the shield matches, the competition got off in earnest. In the opening match, a Junior Division encounter, Barrouallie Secondary defeated Bethel High 6-1. J’shan Samuel netted a hat trick, and there was a goal each from Garret Audain, Kayden Toppin and Reggie Barbour. Bethel’s lone goal came from Filano Sam.

Likewise, Barrouallie Seniors inflicted a 6-0 defeat of Bethel High in the senior match up. Jamymarie Jack and Masranny Harry, both had braces, and one goal each from Shane Miller and Obama Barbour secured Barroualiie’s easy win. The schools are placed in three groups, A, B and C, in both the Junior and Senior Divisions.

Group A features Bethel High, Buccament, Barrouallie, Petit Bordel, Troumaca and the Dr J.P Eustace Memorial Secondary- both Juniors and Seniors.

Group B sees the Intermediate High, St Vincent Grammar School, Thomas Saunders, Bequia Community High, Bequia Seventh Day Adventist and St Martin’s fielding outfits in both the Juniors and Seniors as well.

That Group though has Bishop’s College Kingstown in the Senior Division, and Canouan in the Juniors.

Group C comprises North Union Secondary, St Clair Dacon, Emmanuel High Mesopotamia, West St George Secondary, and Georgetown all with teams in both divisions, while Sandy Bay and Adelphi Secondary are in the Juniors only.

The George Stephens Senior, fields a senior outfit only. The St Martin’s Secondary won last year’s Junior title and Barrouallie, took the title in the Seniors Division.

The primary schools component of the tournament begins on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
