Two Netball squads to represent SVG in regional tournaments

TWO NATIONAL NETBALL squads will be heading into regional tournaments on September 10 and 21, 2024 respectively. On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Senior National female team, ‘Vincy Jewels’ will leave for Saint Lucia to compete in the 2024 edition of the ECCB International Netball Series scheduled for September 22-29, 2024, returning home on September 30.

Before that tournament though, the national male team, ‘Vincy Warriors’ will depart on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, to compete in the 2024 Americas Netball Men’s Championship in St. Kitts and Nevis during the period September 12-18, 2024.

The ‘Vincy Jewels’ team has been in preparation for close to a year, going through rigorous fitness training under the guidance of Chester Morgan and Javed Marksman to ensure that they are fully prepared to compete and regain the championship title they lost to Grenada in Antigua in 2023 by one goal.

The Vincy Jewels squad comprises: Kimesha Antoine (captain), Shania Pompey (vice-captain), Joseann Antoine, Keleshia Barbour, Kaywanna Charles, Kristiana Christopher, Jamarah Coombs (making her senior team debut), Shellisa Davis, Mary-ann Frederick, Kyila Miller, Zanique Vincent, and SherrisaYorke (also making her senior team debut), with the reserve in Jamirah Coombs.

The management team is manager, Juovanie Charles-Roberts; coach, Natasha Baptiste; and Physiotherapist, Javed Marksman; with Robertson S. Henry as media Liaison.

The male squad is : Mc Neal Duncan (captain), Akeil Matthews (vice-captain), Akeil Bute, Akeem Griffith, Christopher Baynes, Darrion Roberts, Dorian Layne, Jermaine John, Kamari Thompson, Samuel Matthews, Sean Frederick, and Zeron Murray, with the reserve in Bertlon Joseph.

The Vincy Warriors management team is coach, Anila Gajjar; manager, Kenlyn Clouden; assistant manager/coach, Ameshia Glasgow; and Physiotherapist, Yonnick Murray.

“I am very pleased with both squads that will be representing the nation. We know that both tournaments will be very competitive and I know that both teams will represent St.Vincent and the Grenadines well,” president of the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association, Natasha Baptiste said.

As part of their preparation the two squads have had a number of intense games against each other, the last being on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Nutricia Netball Centre at New Montrose.
