Catalans looking for fourth TBPO Football title

Since the inauguration of the Top Belair Progressive Organistion’s (TBPO) Nine-a-side Football Competition, there has been only one champion over the three editions- 2018, 2019 and 2022- Grove Street Catalans.

Hence, when the 2024 competition got going last Sunday, April 28, at the Dauphine Playing Field, Catalans signalled that they are out to defend their title.

However, Catalans let a lead slip to a 7-7 draw with Experience One as the competition began in earnest.

Player of the 2023 competition, Steven Pierre, led Catalans’ scoring with three goals. Najima Burgin registered two, and there were single strikes from Kishorn Durham and Curdis Olliver.

The goals for Experience One came from Zidane Solomon who scored a beaver, while Curlon Joseph, Devonte Enville and Zamarro Mofford, each recorded one goal apiece.

The opening match was preceded by the opening ceremony that included a march past of teams, as well as brief remarks from government, sponsors and football officials.

At the march past, Toni Stores was adjudged the Best Dressed outfit.

Twenty one teams- five more than in 2023, stashed into two groups, are contesting the 2024 competition.
