Gordon pursues FIFA Leadership Diploma

Theon Gordon, an officer with the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF), is stepping onto another rung on the ladder of his coaching education; this time, the FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma.

The 18 month long course began this week, April 1, 2024, with an introductory six- day workshop at the German Football Association’s Training Centre; it ends on April 7, 2024.

Gordon, the Director of Technical Matters of the (SVGFF) is among 25 such persons from around the world, who are enrolled in the programme.

He is part of the second cohort, the first having started last May in Brazil, and ending this December in Zurich, Switzerland.

The Technical Leadership Diploma aims to equip Technical Directors of Football, to earn global recognition.

As such, the diploma is meshed with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and is linked to the Ofqual regulations.

The FIFA administered Technical Leadership Diploma covers the areas of Technical Leadership; High Performance; Coach Education; Amateur Football; and Management.

With a diverse delivery over its 18 months duration, the courses to be taken by the course will involve leadership/ knowledge exchange in partnership with the FIFA Talent Development Scheme, along with a leadership workshop for Technical Leaders, as well as an online education pathway, with the FIFA Training Centre being that medium.

Carving out a progressive pathway in his personal attainment and development, Gordon earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management and Technology at the Universidad Deportivo De Sur, Venezuela, after attending that institution from 2006 to 2011.

Coming from a background of national representation, Gordon has played football at various age levels; led the senior team as captain, and has served as coach and manager to different national teams.

Gordon is the holder of a Concacaf B licence, with the A licence being imminent. He has been St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Concacaf Grassroot Co-ordinator, a Concacaf Instructor and a member of the bi-lateral committee for Football development in the Caribbean.

In August 2021, Gordon was appointed the Director for Technical Matters of the SVGFF.
