Archery Association of SVG fashions new initiative

The three year old Archery Association has led the way in convincing World Archery to initiate a new regional developmental championship called the Remote Caribbean Development Archery League (CDAL).

Sanjay Jiandani was the person responsible for crafting the idea, which will see the CDAL commencing on April, 1, 2024.

Delighted with the approval, Jiandani related that “ The idea to run an event of this nature came to me after our national team participated at the 2023 Caribbean Development Championships in Tobago, so I decided to write a proposal that would give new, beginner archers the chance to compete with other archers in the region so they can prepare themselves for their first competition outside their respective countries…”.

“I am very happy to have my proposal approved by World Archery Americas,” Jiandani commented.

The new Caribbean Development Archery League will feature competitions in various disciplines and categories, inclusive of the Recurve, Compound, and Barebow disciplines in both genders, and distance categories.

Additionally, the league will be open to all archers from 12 nations throughout the Caribbean, in all age groups who have less than 12 months of experience.

Jiandani revealed that already his organisation has registered 13 archers who fit the criteria.

Jiandani said CDAL will have a number of positives.

“Hosting this new league will not only help grow the sport in the region but also provide a platform for novice archers to participate in a regional or international event, so I am looking forward to seeing the positive impact that this league will have on the archery community in the Caribbean.”

Following the commencement of the preliminary phase of the CDAL on April 1, 2024, the archers will engage in league play, until June 25, with the finals scheduled for June 29, 2024.
