Vincy athlete earns double qualification

Jamaica based Vincentian sprinter, Devonric Mack has qualified for the men’s 200m for the 2024 World Athletics Under-20 Championships and the 2024 Junior Carifta Games.

A former student of the Barrouallie Secondary School, Mack who is currently enrolled at Jamaica College, ran 21.23s at the Corporate Area Meet on February 17. He thus qualified for the World Athletics event, whose minimum standard is 21.35s.

He also has met the standard set by Team Athletics SVG, that of 21.80s.

It was Mack’s second Carifta Games qualification, as he met the mark for the 400m as well.

He made the 400m standard of 48.52s, when he clocked 47.83s at the Queens/ Grace Jackson Meet in Jamaica, on January 27, 2024.

Apart from Mack, Thyra Charles, who is based in St Kitts, has also qualified for the World Athletics Under-20 championships.

Charles’ qualification is in the 200m, as she timed 24.32s on January 14, 2024, faster than the mark of 24.35s.
