BlueChip Academy wins College Basketball again

The BlueChip Basketball Academy has established themselves as the most dominant unit on the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College’s sports programme.

This, when last Friday February,16, at the Villa Campus Hard Court they took the Basketball title for the third year running.

Hence, they are the first to have a hat trick of titles in any of the disciplines over the eight seasons of the college’s sports programme.

A 77-51 win over Playaz Basketball Academy was BlueChip Academy’s route to their three-peat.

But, it was Playaz who threatened to upstage the 2022 and 2023 champions, as they took the first quarter 13-6.

BlueChip Academy got into their stride in the second quarter at 37-30. The trend continued in the third quarter as BlueChip Academy tightened their hold at 65-44, before closing off the contest with a 26 point margin at the final whistle.

Leading the scoring for BlueChip Academy was Maxron Dublin with 23 points; Marques Thomas added 19. For the losing finalist, Aquando Henry registered 21 points. Thomas was adjudged the MVP of the final.

Preceding the final, Sciences Ballers took third place with a 51-29 victory over the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies.

In a one -way affair Sports Sciences Ballers won all quarters 10-6, 24- 9, and 37-21.

Adrian Sam poured in 32 points for Sports Sciences, while Temal Gopaul sank 12 points for the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies.

Sam was named the competition’s MVP, as well as his team’s MVP, the MVP of semi-final two, MVP of the third place and the honorary Best Defensive Player.

Placing second to Sam were Marques Thomas- honorary Best Defensive Player and Kirk Hamlett, the Best Defensive Player.

The other MVPs were Marques Thomas- BlueChip Academy; Aquando Henry- Playaz Basketball Academy, who was also the MVP of semi-final one; Gadiel Joseph- DTVE Combined; and Temal Gopaul- DASGS.
