Jayden George takes charge of Barbados Junior Squash
Three times Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association(CASA) champion, Vincentian – Jayden George, scalped two titles at the Barbados Junior Open Squash Championships, held November 30 to December 2, 2023, at the Barbados Squash Club.
George trumped the Mixed Under-15, as well as the Mixed Under-17 titles.
On his way to the Under-15 title, he had an 11-1, 11-2, 11-5 win over Emily Fung- A- Fat of Guyana in the semi-final, to set up a finale with Daniel Sealey.
George though outlasted Sealey 11-9, 12-10, 11-9.
Meanwhile, George’s journey in the Under-17 age group, was similarly scripted.
George thus beat Barbadian – Narad Neblett, 11-6, 11-1, 11-0 in the quarter final, before dismissing another- Barbadian- Kai Shepherd, 11-7, 11-2, 11-4, in the semifinals.
This meant that George had a rematch with Sealey, but the results showed George powering to an 11-9, 11-2, 11-1, straight win.
George was part of a two-member St Vincent and the Grenadines team, which also included Savante Padmore, who competed in the Boys Under-11 and Under-13.
George expressed gratitude to Dr Sherian Slater, Diamond Grocery and Leroy “Fly” Edwards, in making the Barbados trip possible.
The Barbados outing was a perfect warm up for George, who will be travelling to the USA later this month for the US Open, along with fellow Vincentians- Jaydon Williams and Nadira Morgan.
Padmore though had to be contented with a third place in the Under-11 age group and was fourth in the Under-13.
He beat Elian Hamati 11-7, 11-3, 11-2, in the third place play off of the Under-13s, however he lost out to another Barbadian- Finn Graham, 13-11, 5-11, 11-7, 5-11, 5-11, to dock fourth in the Under-
15.
