Inaugural national Archery champions installed
Three archers inked their names as the first national Archery champions.
This as the Archery Association of SVG hosted its inaugural championship on August 26 and 27, at the Diamond Track Facility.
Crowned as the Beginners men’s 20 m champion was Rayan Clarke, with Marese Burgin claiming the Open Women’s 30 m title. Taking the Men’s Open 30 m title was Jared Nichols.
Trailing Clarke were Keon Pope and GianCarlo Tiezzi, with Richol Richards and Divya Jiandani placing second and third respectively to Burgin.
And, Quincy Primus was second to Nichols and Sanjay Jiandani, third.
The top finishers emerged following Saturday’s preliminary round of competition, when 17 archers began pitting their skills in the three categories of competition.
Following the hosting of its first national championships, six archers and a coach will travel to Trinidad and Tobago next month, as St Vincent and the Grenadines competes in the World Archery Caribbean Development Championships.
Formalised as a recognized sporting entity in 2021, by World Archery, President of the Archery
Association of SVG, Sanjay Jiandani expressed gratitude to finally, have a facility to call home.
“The Archery Association wishes to thank the government and facility management for their kind support… We look forward to continuing the development of our sport in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” Jiandani expressed in a release.
Jiandani thus encouraged locals and expatriates to get involved in Archery.
“We would like to invite the general public to come out and give Archery a try…We currently are based at the Diamond Track Facility and host three sessions per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays,” the release beckoned.
