Table tennis champion signs one-year sponsorship contract with My Smart Toilet Seat

National table tennis champion and winner of the ‘My Smart Toilet Seat’ table tennis tournament Damion Dublin has signed a $10,000 one-year contract with the My Smart Toilet Seat company here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

As he gave thanks to God for this new endeavour at the signing ceremony on August 4, Dublin said he will maintain his physical and mental fitness for the challenges ahead.

“I am very excited about this opportunity. It has always been my dream to play table tennis and be monetarily rewarded, and I am like, excited, to be the spearhead of it. I will do my best … I will try my best not to disappoint, and to keep my standard for the year and many more years to come.”

Dublin then issued a challenge to all persons who are thinking of getting involved in the sport, that they should “stop thinking … come and play table tennis … you never know.”

Speaking at the contract signing, My Smart Toilet Seat manager Curtis Bascombe stated: “We see sport as a pathway to cultural change and we have adopted table tennis as the sport to bring about such a change.”

Referring to Dublin as a role model, Bascombe said that Dublin will definitely be an inspiration for other table tennis players in SVG.

Following the actual signing of the contract and presentation of the endorsement cheque, Bascombe stated that Dublin “is definitely going to be the face of the inspiration of table tennis.”

Bascombe spoke glowingly of the ‘Pan Against Crime Programme’ as a very good initiative to combat social ills. He said the programme is one “where youngsters engaged in pan which kept them occupied, focused and grew with mentors; I thought that was such a brilliant idea, and there we are seeing that we can look for the same result.”

Following the signing of the contract, Dublin stated that as national champion he looked forward to working with grassroots youngsters.

“…because one of the things that I lacked in my earlier stages in table tennis was that mentorship. It was very hard with a lot of struggles so I will put myself out there to help mould them to be more outgoing and more competitive.”
