SVGCA Inc to hold protracted AGM on September 5

The protracted Annual General Meeting of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc.(SVGCA), at which elections will be held, is set for September, 5, 2023.

This was the decision that emerged from a special general meeting held by the organisation on Tuesday, July 18, at the President’s Suite of the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Additionally, all documents and reports should be available to affiliates by August 22.

Accordingly, the AGM is constitutionally due by December, 31, each year.

The absence of the audited financial statement and reports have been cited as the reasons for the delay of the meeting.

As a result the SVGCA Inc has been unable to install an elected president, following the demitting of office of Rommel Currency.

According to a release from the association earlier this year, Currency had indicated that he had resolved for personal reason to serve as president up to December, 2022, the constitutional end of his term as president, and to not pursue a further term at elections.

The release further stated that he decided to continue in the seat of the presidency in hope that the auditor’s report and audited financial statements would have been ready.

However, with both report and statement not forthcoming and may not be ready before next month. Currency chose to resign effective, January 26, 2023.

He was elected to the post in December, 2020.

With Currency vacating the position, first vice -president Miles Bascombe, had performed the duties as president.

However, Bascombe has since been appointed the Cricket West Indies’ Director of Cricket; a position he takes up effective, August 1.

As the constitution dictates, second vice- president, Denis Byam, is next in line to take up the mantle.

Byam is the current Physiotherapist attached to the senior West Indies men’s Cricket team.
