Coast Guard takes 2023 Inter- Ministerial Road Relay
THE STVINCENT and the Grenadines Coast Guard ran virtually unchallenged on the final legs of the Inter-ministerial road relay to claim the title with a clear berth on the ninth and final leg which ended at the Financial Complex.
The race, which was run through the streets of Kingstown, saw sparse participation from the various Ministries, Statutory Corporations, and Departments of Government with competitors coming only from the Ministry of Finance; the Ministry of Transport and Works and the SVG Coast Guard.
The 9-leg race blew off at the Victoria Park almost an hour behind the scheduled 10:30 a.m. start, with the three starters scrambling on the first leg around the Victoria Park, a lap made shorter as the stage for the annual Carnival activities was being constructed.
The hand over by the three runners at the entrance to Victoria Park at the gate near to VC3 studios was simultaneous, and the second leg was ran from the VC3 gate to Subway (down town). The third leg, which was run by female runners, ended at the Postal Corporation where the Coast Guard inched ahead, and took full control from then on.
The fourth leg ended at the C.K. Greaves Supermarket, the fifth leg at the entrance to Little Tokyo, and the sixth leg, ran also by females, ended at the bridge at Rose Place from where the males took over and put on the finishing touches.
The SVG Coast Guard continued to lead on the seventh leg to Flow and the eighth and penultimate leg to the Forrester’s Court (Ju-C corner), from where they ran totally unchallenged on the ninth leg which ended at the Financial Complex.
The Ministry of Transport and Works finished second, and coming in third was the Ministry of Finance.
The Road Relay kicked off a calendar of events on the 2023/2024 St.Vincent and the Grenadines Inter- Ministerial Sports programme which will begin in earnest following the conclusion of Vincy Mas 2023.
The sporting disciplines which are expected to be contested include Football, Netball, Dominoes, Pedro, and Cricket.
