Three siblings among winners in National Junior Squash Championships

Siblings- Caeli ,Jayden and Ciara George, all copped age group titles when the Vita Malt National Junior Squash Championships came to an end last Saturday at the National Squash Centre at Paul’s Avenue.

Caeli won the Girls Under-13, ahead of Amiyah Bascombe, winning the duel 11-1, 11-3,11-4.

In securing the Boys Under-15, Jayden had wins over Deron Lewis 11-0, 11-2, 11-; Raejon Dover 11-1, 11-2, 11-2; Aiden De Freitas 11-0, 11-2, 11-2; and Chayim Charles 11-2, 11-2, 11-3.

Meanwhile, Ciara, on her way to the Girls Under-15 crown, defeated Naira Sky John 11-1, 11-4, 11-0; triumphed over Natalia Olton, 11-3, 11-4, 11-0; overcame Zoe Martin 11-1, 11-3, 11-4; and saw off her sister Caeli 11-4, 11-4, 11-1.

Other winners were Savante Padmore, Jaydon Williams and Nadira Morgan.

Padmore won the Boys Under-11 and Under-13 titles.

Wins against Za’ Mar Welcome 11-1, 11-2, 11-3; Ethan Webster 11-1, 11-2, 11-0; and Zavin Garrick 11-1, 11-4, 11-1, handed Padmore the Under-11 top place, while he defeated DeQuan Garrick 11-2, 11-0, 11-3; Raejon Dover 13-11, 11-7, 11-6; and Aiden DeFreitas 11-8, 11-13, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5, to win the Under-13 title.

Like Padmore, Williams won two titles, the Boys Under-17 and Under-19.

Williams’ pathway to the Under-17 title, traversed wins against Kyle James 11-1, 11-4, 11-4; Malachi Mc Master 11-2, 11-4, 11-3; and Jayden George 11-8, 11-2, 9-11, 11-5.

His unbeaten run in the Under-19, included wins over Devere James 11-2, 11-2, 11-5; Oneil Sprott 11-1, 11-2, 11-1; Malachi McMaster 11-5, 11-3, 11-2; and Jlan McMaster 11-1, 11-1, 11-8.

And, Morgan registered a 11-8, 11-2, 9-11, 11-5 defeat to champ the Girls Under-19.

Two additional awards were presented at Saturday’s closing ceremony. Devere James took away the Sportsmanship Award and Naira-Sky John adjudged copped the award for Most Improved Player.

A total of 23 players contested the championships that ran from April 13 to 15.
